CHARLES H. PEYTON DISTINGUISHED RESEARCH ADMINISTRATOR AWARD

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS EXTENDED TO APRIL 11, 2008 (See below)

Charles H. Peyton joined the University of Arizona in 1958 in the College of Engineering, and later held the positions of Director of Communications, Assistant Vice President for Research, and, for several years prior to his retirement in 1992, Associate Vice President for Research. In his memory, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development created the Charles H. Peyton Distinguished Research Administrator Award. The Award is given annually to an individual who best exemplifies sustained excellence in research administration. University faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and administrators are encouraged to nominate individuals.

ELIGIBILITY. Current UA employees involved in the administration of research to include grants and contract employment, financial management, regulatory compliance, ethics and Institutional Review Boards, intellectual property and technology transfer, and the management and oversight of research projects. Nominees may include faculty, research staff, professional unit-based and central financial officers, and unit-based and central compliance officers.

CRITERIA. Nominees must be actively involved in research administration. Nomination letters should contain specific and verifiable information describing the nominee's commitment to sustained excellence in research administration and address the following criteria:

1. A high degree of competence, expertise, and sustained excellence in research administration.

2. A commitment to professional development in research administration as demonstrated by participation in professional organizations and university committees.

3. Significant contribution to and impact on research administration within a laboratory, program, or unit, or across the university.

NOMINATION AND SUBMISSION PROCEDURE. Submissions must consist of the following items:

1. A completed nomination form (Complete form online and print).

2. One nomination letter plus up to five letters of recommendation.

Submit 1 copy of the completed nomination packet on or before 5:00 PM on April 11, 2008 to the Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development in Room 601 of the Administration Building, 1401 E. University Boulevard.

EVALUATION PROCESS. Nomination packets will be reviewed by a committee appointed by the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development.

Deadline: Nomination packets must be received in the Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development, Administration Building, Room 601 by 5:00 PM on APRIL 11, 2008.
