Mission Statement

  1. To enhance, expand, and encourage the research mission of The University of Arizona; to engender that climate conducive to maintaining the University's Research One status; to foster the process of acquiring external research funds by providing services which help researchers identify external funds, secure support, and ensure accountability when funds are received; to represent University interests in negotiating the complete costs of undertaking research on our campus and in advising in the allocation of indirect cost; to ensure the existence and competence of federally mandated research oversight committees which provide for public safety and ethical scientific procedures; to assure the highest standards of use of animals in research; to provide patent protection for new ideas, to promote their commercialization and, in so doing, to protect the intellectual property of the state; and to provide expertise for research instrument fabrication.
  2. To meld more traditional academic activities with current research in related disciplines to enhance the all-around educational goals of the University, with emphasis at the post baccalaureate level; to provide the administrative structure needed to encourage the development and fruition of graduate interdisciplinary studies which will lead to valid, nontraditional trends; to provide appropriate structure to house new interdisciplinary research activities - areas of scientific endeavor which do not fit into traditional departments - thus reinforcing the University's continued position at the cutting edge of research and scholarly activities.
  3. Finally, through a variety of means, to assist in the development of new resources and the application of new technologies to benefit the University and the state.
